On the sofa with Tom…

So you may have noticed a picture on the side of The Church Sofa about Laughing with some guy named Tom. We thought you all might like to find out a little more about who this guy is so we invited him to join us on the sofa for a while and tell us a bit more. Please sit back, relax and enjoy our interview with the man behind ‘Laughing with Tom’

If you could be any vegetable, what would you be and why?

Ooh, I think that would have to be a carrot. For no other reason than because I love carrots and houmous.

What is your favorite pudding and why?

Banoffee pie. Taste it and see. I tell you, it’s the desert of the heavenly banquet – believe me, I’ve checked.

Are you a funny man, a magic man, a speaker man, or a preacher man? Or a combination?

A combination – A little bit like Banoffee pie. Special.

Tell us a joke…

Went into tesco’s and all these dwarfs were stacking shelves, I thought ‘Every little helps…’

What’s your book about?

It’s a combination of stories, both humorous and serious, illustrating quick thoughts and biblical reflections.

The Church Sofa Awards 2010

For some odd reason people seem to like celebrating the passing of time… and who are we to ignore a band wagon?

Here are the Church Sofa Awards – results based on what we see from our sofa:

Twitter Hero: Dave Walker – For a combination of his fairly funny tweets and  for bringing the Steelroots saga to everyones attention.

Best Web Project: The Natwivity – Really really close run thing… But… the website… Facebook… Twitter… Loved it!
Honourable Mention: The Big Bible Project

Biggest Challenge: Phil Cooke asks do you show up?

Best Christian-Blogger-Who-Is-Kinda-Well-Known-In-Christian-Circles: Vicky Beeching – Great blog for a combination of worship stuff, church comment, tech comment, and Beechingness.

The Best Bad Idea: Why you don’t celebrate Christmas in Church with a Camel.

Best Alien: Elvis – because the Daleks haven’t yet wrote a blog post…

Villain of the year: Steelroots  – The American TV Station – not the youthgroup… We would hate anyone to be confused….. (Find more info here )

New Look and New Toys…

Hello!

Welcome to the new look Church Sofa website. We have taken the redesign as a chance to include a few toys. One of which is a flickr account… which doesn’t seem to be playing with our slide show – which is meant to be on the left hand side.

Like everyone else, we now have a Facebook page. If you like us and want to receive updates via Facebook, please feel free to click on “Like” on the left hand side of this screen. We’ll probably update it with random bits and pieces as well at somepoint.

Obviously if you’ve read this via Facebook, then I’m sorry for what’s such a self defeating post.

It is all a bit of a work in progress at the moment, so sorry if anything seems messy.

If something looks actually broken by the way – Please give us a shout!

I have a Beard. Beards are cool now.

Ok.

I admit it.

Thats me in that rather dodgy dark photo – Its the best I could find online.

Why do I have a photo of myself on the site? Well its because I’m looking totally ridiculus cool in my new beard that I grew as part of ‘Movember’, a campaign designed to help raise awareness of, and funds for the fight against Prostrate cancer.

Please take a moment to take a read of Movember and the Prostrate UK website, and if you feel inclined please make a donation towards Movember.

The future of The Church Sofa

The Church Sofa lads seem to be moving in a new direction. We’re already involved in tech support, youth work, worship leading, trying to follow God, researching into the best direction for church in terms of seating and various other things that come to mind. However, in the fairly near future we’ll be venturing into the art of interviewing.

No neither of us have been given a promotion to be a manager or team leader or anything like. Rather we’re going to be interviewing people that we think will be helpful in our journey of following Christ so watch this space for some great looking interviews with organisations and people who have a great story to tell.

We’re on Twitter!

Hello.

Do you ‘tweet’?

If so, you may like to know we’re hanging around twitter as well!

Please say hi – I’ve got the day off from the work, and I’m kinda bored…

(Twitter also gets updated via the blog, so you’ll know when the main site is updated as well)
