Perhaps its because its nearly Christmas. Perhaps its because Donald Trump is being impeached, but there’s been a few talking points from the Christian internet world this week.
No. Its totally all about Donald Trump being impeached and American Evangelicals… reacting…
Christianity Today had something to say…
So. The US magazine Christianity Today, has pretty much come out and said this week that Donald Trump should go, and Christians shouldn’t support him.
Whether Mr. Trump should be removed from office by the Senate or by popular vote next election—that is a matter of prudential judgment. That he should be removed, we believe, is not a matter of partisan loyalties but loyalty to the Creator of the Ten Commandments.Christianity Today
It has lit Twitter on fire, and credit should be given to Christianity Today for making it clear where they stand.
To the many evangelicals who continue to support Mr. Trump in spite of his blackened moral record, we might say this: Remember who you are and whom you serve. Consider how your justification of Mr. Trump influences your witness to your Lord and Savior. Consider what an unbelieving world will say if you continue to brush off Mr. Trump’s immoral words and behavior in the cause of political expediency. If we don’t reverse course now, will anyone take anything we say about justice and righteousness with any seriousness for decades to come?Christianity Today
Hopefully these strong words would start to give people the permission to feel they can also disagree with Christians about Trump.
Donald Trump had something to say…
Because of course he did…
And unsurprisingly doesn’t address the point of the article.
Then Franklin Graham piled on…
But doesn’t address the nuance of the Christianity Today article.
Hopefully 2020 will be the year that politics and Christianity becomes a little less binary. A little less black and white. And a little more open to discussion.
