Fears of jeans and hoodies in pulpit

Over this weekend, the Daily Mail has reported on a vote due in the Church of England synod to decide if clergy’s robes are surplice to requirements. This is leading to (according to the Daily Mail ), “Fears of jeans and hoodies in pulpit”.

Seeing as I wear jeans and a hoody to church most weeks, I wouldn’t really notice if vicars started turning up in a similar outfit.

Personally I think the Daily Mail have missed the point, and the real reason why we should be worried about the vote on clergy robes. If clergy robes are found to be surplice to requirements, then whats to stop a respected vicar from turning up to a service dressed like this:

Does the good old C of E need to call Gok Wan in to keep us all looking presentable yet acceptable?
