Bad “Christian” Marriage Advice

*Trigger Warnings for Abuse*

Sometimes, I click on a link that I kinda wish I didn’t. For example, The Huffington Post had a little article on Christian Domestic Discipline Promotes Spanking Wives To Maintain Biblical Marriage. I figured that it sounded so ridiculous, that it was worth while checking out. It wasn’t, and I’m only posting this out of rage – even then Im struggling to find the words to type.

Simply put, Christian Domestic Discipline is a organisation that thinks its Christian for a “Head of Household” to abuse their “Life Partner”. Or in their words:

Domestic discipline is the practice between two consenting life partners in which the head of the household (HoH) takes he necessary measures to achieve a healthy relationship dynamic; the necessary measure to create a healthy home environmental and the necessary measures to protect all members of the family from dangerous or detrimental outcomes by punishing the contributing, and thus unwanted, behaviors for the greater good of the family.

There are websites dedicated to this, there are even booklets. Which is handy as it guides you in the pros and cons of the different equipment to spank your partner with. For example the pros of using the hand are its “Convenient; inexpensive (free); will not bruise; excellent for bringing nerves to the surface“. While one of the con’s are that using the hand can be painful for the “Head of Household”.

How does any of this fits in with Ephesians 5:25? (“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her”)
I can only suggest that it doesn’t.

I’m going to go away and be sick now.
