A Simple Rule About A Church Pew.

Way back in the early history of The Church Sofa, The Sofa lads were involved in a fair bit of argument research into what was better: A church pew, or a church chair.

I feel the research has reached a critical point with this little piece of evidence from anglicanmemes:

Being one of those weird Christians who go along to church in a school, I might be a bit naive about such matters, but is it because pews are normally glued down or something?

Debate Tuesday: The Chair or The Pew?

Its an argument that has been going on since its invention.

Yes its comfy, yes they are warmer to the touch then a pew.

But why should we uproot tradition in some churches, and replace the humble pew, with the young chair?

Here are a few reasons why I really do believe the Mighty Church Pew should be protected in our churches:

  1. People expect to see a pew in a church. Lets not make people feel any more uncomfortable then they are.
  2. Solid climbing frame. You can let the kids go nuts over them, and have no fear of chair style tippage.
  3. Mini race tracks.
  4. Easier to keep track of ‘your pew’ – Less chance of a pew moving…
  5. You can talk for ages after the service and not have anyone try and stack your pew away from under you.
  6. You can save your chewing gum for next time.
  7. A handy shelf for supplies like bibles, song books, notice sheets, coke, chocolate… etc…
  8. Put a few cushions down, get a blanket, and you’ve got yourself somewhere to kip.
  9. Need a bigger youth budget? Got a pew with a door on the end? Charge people to enter the back couple of rows.
  10. “Best burning material since we burned the cat.”

Any other reasons why pews work better then chairs?

The “chair people” will get their say next week!

Hello, and welcome to Debate Tuesday*!!

Debate Tuesday will be the time when we debate the big issues of the moment, what is important, what really matters in life!

We’re going to be kicking off next week** with an up to date version of debating of a church should be like a Mac or a PC. Other ideas in the pipeline include if Church should meet in a church or a shed, and possibly a revisit to the Pew / Chair argument.

In the meantime what other serious issues like these would you like to see us debate?

Imagine it. Its early Sunday afternoon, and you get back home from church. You sit down and think to yourself that you’re missing something.

Is it the feel of warm fellowship with other Christians? No.

Is the musical complexities of the worship band? No.

Maybe its your pew that your missing?

Or maybe your just wanting to help us out with our Church Pew or Seat Research?

The Church Chair v Church Pew Debate. Reports from the field.

We’ve heard reports that our research in the area of Church Pewsor Church Chairs have started to have an affect on the outside world, with our reports possibly being quoted in church meetings.

In order for us to gather evidence to help justify our request for a grant to continue our research, please let us know if you find our research useful.

We want this research to be a blessing to the church, church goers and those that may find themselves in a church by accident (like me…..I mean people I know). This research is in no way aimed for the benefit of the lads of the church sofa, though we may at some point push the ideas of sofas in church.
